I recently found out that you can half op people and they get % signs. They can change the topic, ban people, give op status to other people, and so on. Ops have the ability to do anything and everything you've seen done in a chat. On Ustream, the streamer himself is the only one given automatic operator status, but through the chat settings he can choose more auto-ops or op people throughout the stream. You've probably entered a stream, and saw people at the top of the nick list with next to their names. This is why it's very helpful to know some basics about IRC. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing the Ustream-Bot does that cannot be done without it, if you know your IRC commands. That is, of course if you are an operator. If the bot is not there, ! commands will not work. What is actually happening is the Ustream-Bot is receiving this command and changing the topic. If you've been in ustream chats enough, you probably know that there are commands executed by exclamation marks. I'm not the right person to explain IRC chats completely, but basically it's a chat system based on commands, usually executed by a slash.įor instance, /topic is a topic command, but I will get into that later. I will be frequently updating this post with anything you want me to add (as long as I feel it pertains to the thread and is useful) so please feel free to add on, since I know I won't be able to cover it all and I'm not the best with irc anyway.įirst of all, you should know that the chats in ustream, ARE IRC CHATS! I didn't understand this at first but now that I do it makes things a lot easier/cooler. There are only a handful people on Ustream that seem to know a lot about IRC and ustream's chat (which is an IRC chat), so I think people should get some useful information and have a nice resource to look back at when they need to know something for ustream chatting or irc in general. The script is at the bottom of the scripts section. (Automatically posts video title when a youtube link is posted). Posted: Thu 5:00 am Post subject: IRC Tutorial
